Celebrating Craft and Creativity with Woodblock Chocolate

In the vibrant heart of Portland's artisan scene, a story of passion, craftsmanship, and chocolate unfolds with Woodblock Chocolate. Founded by Charley and Jessica Wheelock, this local gem is a testament to the beauty of following one's passion and the magic of raw materials transformed with care and creativity.

The journey of Woodblock Chocolate is as rich and layered as the chocolate they create. It began with an unlikely premise: a couple skilled in antique restoration, with a shared love for the potential hidden in raw materials. For Charley and Jessica, wood was their first canvas, but it wasn't long before their curiosity and creative spirit led them to another raw and potent material – cacao.

This exploration turned into a calling, a dream they hadn’t fully realized they had until they were deep into the process of making chocolate from the bean. Since its inception in 2010, Woodblock Chocolate has evolved from a small-scale operation in the Wheelocks' kitchen to a beloved Manufactory/Café nestled in Portland’s Irvington-Broadway district. This growth was fueled by Portland’s own love for innovation, food, and design, embracing the Wheelocks' venture with open arms.

Woodblock Chocolate's ethos is a reflection of their journey – an unwavering commitment to simplicity, quality, and exploration. With visits to cacao farms from Hawaii to Peru, Charley and Jessica have immersed themselves in the world of chocolate, learning, experimenting, and sometimes stumbling along the way. Their dedication to understanding the history, philosophy, and craft of chocolate making has culminated in a product that is not just consumed, but experienced.

Their chocolate, made from only two ingredients – cacao and pure cane sugar – is a tribute to their journey, embodying the essence of their learning, passion, and the vibrant community that supported them. It's a journey that they are proud to share, offering a piece of their story in every bar of chocolate.

As sponsors of the Love, Oregon project, Woodblock Chocolate brings more than just sweetness to our events. They bring a story of love, artistry, and the pursuit of dreams. Their chocolate is not just a treat; it's an invitation to explore and to taste the culmination of years of dedication and passion.

We are thrilled to have Woodblock Chocolate as a part of our journey, sharing with us the fruits of their labor and the spirit of Portland’s creative community. Join us in celebrating the art of chocolate making and the incredible journey of Charley and Jessica Wheelock. Together, we savor not only the rich, complex flavors of their chocolate but also the story of creativity, resilience, and community that it represents.
