Jujuba Brings the Rhythm to Love, Oregon Festival!
We're thrilled to announce that Jujuba will be making their debut at the Love, Oregon Festival this year, and we couldn't be more excited to welcome them!
Jujuba is a powerhouse 10-piece band that delivers a unique, funky, danceable blend of Nigerian Afrobeat and Juju music, a sound that's guaranteed to get everyone moving. Their vibrant energy comes from the seamless cohesion between their percussion, rhythm, and horn sections, creating a sound that's as infectious as it is joyful. Renowned for engaging audiences of all kinds, Jujuba never fails to fill the dance floor with smiling faces.
At the heart of Jujuba is Nojeem Lasisi, a master talking drum player from Igbo Ora, Oyo State, Nigeria. With a drumming legacy passed down from his father, Nojeem's talent ranks among the world's elite. Having toured the world with Nigerian superstar King Sunny Ade and appeared on numerous recordings, Nojeem brings an authentic and powerful language to the drum that anchors Jujuba's sound.
The journey of Jujuba began in 1999 when Marc Silverman (keys) and Ethan Flaherty (guitar) moved to Portland with a vision of creating a band rooted in West African drumming. Their passion for Ghanaian rhythms and Marc's travels and studies in Africa inspired them to blend these traditional sounds with electric bass, keyboard, and guitar. The magic truly began when they met percussionist Tobias Manthey, who introduced them to his teacher, Nojeem Lasisi, marking the first rehearsal of what would become Jujuba.
Jujuba has been a beacon of joy in the Portland music scene for over two decades. We can't wait for you to feel the energy and rhythm they'll bring to Love, Oregon, this year!
Get ready to dance, smile, and celebrate with Jujuba at Love, Oregon!
